TIRUNELVELI: Demanding reservation in private sector enterprises, the Puthiya Thamizhagam functionaries staged demonstration opposite the Office of General Manager, BSNL, at Vannarpettai in Palayamkottai on Thursday.

Led by the party president, K. Krishnasamy, the functionaries demanded that the Government should take steps to give five acres of wetland or ten acres of dry land to the Dalits for carrying out farming activities. Steps should be taken to fill up the 10 lakh-odd backlog vacancies in the Central and State Government departments.

Speaking to reporters at the protest venue, Dr. Krishnasamy said his party would take out a cycle rally at Gangaikondan in the first week of September against the South India Bottling Company Limited, which was setting up a plant to produce Coca-Cola beverages.
