TIRUCHI: The Pudukottai Highway leading up to the airport from the city will soon sport a brighter look, thanks to an improved illumination arrangement being made by the Corporation.

The Corporation is installing about 88 sodium vapour lamps on the road stretch between the TVS Tollgate and the Airport.

The road, which has been poorly illuminated with lamps on either side, would now have high-powered lamps (250 watts) on the road median making for better visibility.

Work on erecting the 9.5-metre high lamp-posts on the road medians is currently underway.

The project has been taken up at a cost of Rs.25 lakhs. Apart from this, about 28 three-metre high lamps would be installed in front of the airport at a cost of Rs.9.50 lakhs.

The civic body has planned to put up about 45 sodium vapour lamps on Thiruvadi Street, South Chithra and Uthira Streets in Srirangam at a cost of Rs.10.50 lakhs under the heritage town development programme.

The Corporation has installed about 30 sodium vapour lamps on E. V. R. Road at Puthur at a cost of Rs.5.90 lakhs.
