VHP activists held while trying to burst crackers

Udhagamandalam: Under the aegis of the Tamil Nadu Towheed Jamath, the Nilgiris, a demonstration was staged in frond of the market post office here on Wednesday.


It was led by the president of the district unit Abu Kalam Azad.

The demonstrators wanted the Babri Masjid to be handed over to the Muslims and action taken against those who had vandalised it.

Earlier supporters of the Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam led by the district president of the party Akbar Ali organised a demonstration here.

Elaborate security arrangements had been made by the police.

Meanwhile, some activists of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad were arrested when they burst crackers and tried to perform a puja in public here without the permission of the authorities.

Among those arrested was the president of the Nilgiris VHP B.K. Kumaran.
