Protest against Govt. move

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, DEC. 27. Protest is brewing against the Government's reported move to cut the member strength of the State Women's Commission, with more social organisations joining the fray.

The president of Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parishad, Ms. T. Radhamony, has in a statement issued here, condemned the Government for trying to upset a system set up for ensuring social justice.

The Central and State Women's Commissions were set up after the persistent struggles of women's organisations. Unlike other Commissions, the Women's Commission was one which rendered valuable service to women who constituted 50 per cent of the population of the State. Within a short period itself, it has been able to provide succour to women from weaker sections of society, KSSP said.

The Government was trying to deceive the public that it was trying to cut its expenditure by reducing the strength of Commissions, KSSP alleged.

The women in Kerala will never tolerate any attempt by the Government to limit the functioning of the Women's Commission, it said.
