TAMIL NADU

Promoting blood donation

WORTHY I-DAY CELEBRATION: Members of the Nethaji National Movement engaged NSS volunteers of 16 schools to pin the tricolour on the shirts of one lakh people in Madurai on August 15.

THE NETHAJI National Movement observed Independence Day in Madurai in a unique manner by conducting a blood donation camp, in which two points "let us share blood instead of wasting it" and "remember that freedom was attained by shedding gallons of blood" were stressed. In the camp conducted for the 12th consecutive year, 183 volunteers, including students, autorickshaw drivers, labourers and women, donated blood. The Vice-Chancellor of Madurai Kamaraj University, P. Maruthamuthu, inaugurated the camp.

The Movement also organised a `distinctive patriotic pinning mission' on the city streets by involving National Service Scheme volunteers of 16 schools. They pinned the national tricolour on one-lakh shirts on Independence Day.
