‘PONSHRIMP ‘17’, a programme with the theme ‘Responsible nursery phase adoption in shrimp farming systems: Technology testimonials and policy formulations’ is scheduled to be held at Fisheries College and Research Institute (FCRI), Ponneri, on May 20.
This programme would be co-organised by ICAR - Central Institute of Brackish Water Aquaculture (ICAR-CIBA), National Fisheries Development Board and Coastal Aquaculture Authority.
A statement issued by the FCRI here on Sunday said Minister for Finance and Fisheries D. Jayakumar would inaugurate the workshop, besides a new block of students’ hostel and a mobile aquaculture quality testing lab.
This workshop was aimed at providing a platform to an in-depth discussion on various challenges in inland shrimp farming and commercialising shrimp nurseries.
Major focal points of the workshop would be providing inputs to policy makers for framing guidelines for coastal and inland saline shrimp farmers and disseminating technical knowledge on indoor and outdoor nursery technology and stressing the importance of nursery phase adoption in shrimp farming.
S. Felix, Vice-Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Fisheries University, would be the convener and Cheryl Antony, Dean (in-charge), FCRI, Ponneri, the co-convener of the workshop.
A total of 150 participants, including farmers from other States, had registered for this workshop, the statement added.
