`Privatisation will lead to hike in bus fares'

CHENNAI Nov. 24. The TNCC working president, E.V.K.S. Elangovan, today questioned the rationale behind privatising bus routes, after the State Government admitted that the Transport corporations were making profit.

The income, which should legitimately come to the Government, was being sought to be given to some individuals, he alleged. As many as 35,000 employees would lose their jobs by the move.

The privatisation tops the list of anti-people measures, and would result in further increase in bus fares and withdrawal of the free bus pass for school students, he said.
