Police quell rumours

Independence Day was a day of rumours in and around Thalassery. Stories of some incidents of clashes here and troubles there kept coming in thick and fast. Panic gripped the people in and around the town. The air of uncertainty, however, did not last longer thanks to the presence and intervention of police personnel. The people of Thalassery need no schooling on how rumours can spark violence that can engulf the entire area known for its communal amity. The communal riots in Thalassery in 1971 taught them the need to be wary of rumour-mongers. The police personnel deployed at Thalassery in large numbers in view of the Freedom Parade.
