TUTICORIN: Tension prevailed in the town for a while as hundreds of jewellers and goldsmiths resorted to a road roko near Municipal Office alleging police atrocities against three jewellers and their family members.

There was no breakthrough in the investigation.

Still the jewellers were kept in the police custody for questioning and their kith and kin were harassed so that they resorted to road roko, they told mediapersons.

Later, the jewellers marched to the Collectorate after closing their shops and submitted memorandum to senior revenue officials (in the absence of Collector) to take action against erring police officials.
