Plea to reinstate 97 Khadi board employees

TIRUCHI, DEC.6 . The Khadi and Village Industries Board Employees' Welfare Association has urged the Government to reinstate 97 permanent employees, who were removed from their service on March 12 this year without prior notice.

A request to this effect was made in a resolution adopted at its State executive committee meeting held here on Sunday. Its president, E. Rajadurai, presided.

The meeting sought cancellation of the Government Order (number 198) in order to provide job security to the board's 862 employees. Speakers pointed out that though the Khadi and Village Industries Department functioned with the Gandhian objective, the staff strength was being pruned on the pretext of loss. So, the Government should take steps to relocate the employees in other departments wherever vacancies existed.

Since various amenities enjoyed by government employees were applicable to the board's employees too, the Government should extend the leave surrender norm to the latter, and pay the enhanced dearness allowance of 14 per cent with retrospective effect.
