THANJAVUR: : The Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam and the Akila India Vivasaya Thozhilalar Sangam have appealed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to call a meeting of the Cauvery River Authority immediately and take steps for water release from Karnataka as per the interim award of the Cauvery River Water Disputes Tribunal.

In a statement here on Tuesday, S. Thirunavukarasu, general secretary, Thozhilalar Sangam, and K. Balakrishnan, general secretary, Vivasaya Sangam, said the southwest monsoon had set in the catchments of the Cauvery in Karnataka.

The Kabini dam was almost full, and the Krishnarajasagar dam was also receiving a good inflow.

They criticised Chief Minister Jayalalithaa for her "failure" to get the State's share of Cauvery water from Karnataka for the past four years.

They suggested that the Chief Minister meet her Karnataka counterpart N. Dharam Singh and Dr. Manmohan Singh.

They said nearly 5000 telegrams urging the Chief Minister and the Prime Minister to act immediately would be sent.
