TAMIL NADU

Plea for water release

Staff Reporter

NAGERCOIL: The Communist Party of India (Marxists) has urged the Government to find an early solution to the Neyyar water issue for the benefit of farmers belonging to the tail-end areas in the district.

Speaking to presspersons, its district secretary, S.Noor Mohammed, flayed the AIADMK Government for its failure to raise the Neyyar water issue with the Kerela Government so far.

The two State Governments did not convene any meeting to sort out the issue though farmers had conducted several agitations.

He dismissed reports that the CPI(M) in Kerela was against sharing the Neyyar water with border villages in the State.

The party would strive to get the Neyyar water released through Idathukarai canal. If the Government was unable to find a permanent solution to this issue, the party would organise another agitation in the area.
