Play equipment distributed

TIRUNELVELI, AUG.21. The Minister for Social Welfare, P. Valarmathi, today distributed play equipment to 244 anganvadis in the district under the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan programme and welfare measures to the tune of Rs.5.74 lakhs.

The Minister for Industries, Nainar Nagendran, said the Government had taken extra care in upgrading the anganvadis into nursery schools as the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, was keen on improving the standards of the anganvadis on a par with private English medium schools.

The Collector, Atul Anand, said Tirunelveli would soon become malnutrition-free district since top priority was being accorded to achieve this goal through sustained efforts.

The Minister for Adi Dravida Welfare, S. Karuppasamy, the Mayor, Tirunelveli Corporation, A. Jayarani, and others spoke.
