TUTICORIN: The Collector, V. Chandrasekaran, said that plans were afoot to establish a boat club at Authoor near here at an estimated project outlay of Rs.16 lakhs as part of efforts to augment tourism potential in the district.

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, he said the district administration was drafting a blueprint of the proposed boat club before sending it to the Government for administrative sanction. The boat club would be equipped with various types of boats such as rowing and pedalling boats for tourists to take pleasure rides along a four km stretch of the Tamarabarani river starting near Authoor bridge.

A yard would be constructed to park the boats and a fabulous park on the banks of the Tamarabarini near the entrance of the boat club.

The project cost would cover lighting arrangements to be done on the Authoor bridge.

Traffic park

The Collector said the administration has chalked out a plan to establish a traffic park for children in the town at an estimated cost of Rs. 50 lakhs.

The project would come up as a public-private partnership venture on a two-acre land identified near the Tuticorin Port Guest House. It would offer facilities for children to drive mini cars and vehicles and simultaneously learn traffic signs and rules.
