Pipeline politics

Sir, — This refers to the editorial "Stand firm on the Iran pipeline" (March 17). I do not think the advice to the UPA Government to stand firm is practical. Though the pipeline offers a number of advantages, it has to pass through Pakistan, which, given the unstable nature of its polity, can stop cooperating any time.

Also, there is no gainsaying that Pakistan, beholden as it is to America for aid, will not be bullied into toeing the American line. Instead of going with the undependable Pakistan, the Government would do well to accept Condoleezza Rice's offer of an "energy dialogue."
