TAMIL NADU

Perennial problem of the people

Staff Reporter

TIRUCHI: The mosquito menace is no doubt a perennial problem in most residential colonies in Tiruchi.

Elected representatives of Tiruchi Corporation Council do not fail to raise the issue almost at every other meeting of the council.

Councillors, often complain that the fogging operation, supposed to be carried out periodically, was regularly irregular in their wards.

Perhaps tired over repeating the demand, the AIADMK councillor, P. Sami Kannu, known for his `poetic' and lyrical skills, suggested that the Corporation could consider supplying mosquito nets to all households since the civic body was not in a position to control the menace. Though the House plunged in to laughter by his remarks, Mr. Sami Kannu seemed to be rather serious in insisting his demand and even argued that the funds sanctioned by the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, for the Corporation recently could be utilised for the purpose.
