MALAPPURAM: P. Kulsu, State Women's Commission member, on Saturday, visited two tribal women who are under treatment at the Government General Hospital, Manjeri, after having been expelled from their house at Mailadi Adivasi Colony near Areekkode.

The women told Ms. Kulsu that a man had sexually exploited them after given them liquor. One of them gave birth to a child and the other is carrying.

Though the commission offered them shelter at its short-stay home at Poojapura in Thiruvananthapuram, the women wanted to be sent back to the forests. Ms. Kulsu said she had directed the hospital authorities to ensure good care and police protection, if needed, to the women.

Earlier, the commission held a sitting at the Collectorate conference hall here. Twenty-seven cases came up. While hearing of 17 of them was adjourned, others were closed. Ms. Kulsu said the commission would approach the Director-General of Police and the Chief Minister seeking better work conditions for women police personnel in the State.
