Outdated legacy

Sir, — Though we talk of the changing scenario in all walks of life, we still follow the British legacy of wearing long gowns at the time of getting degrees during the convocation. It is not clear why we follow such practices even after many years of Independence. Similarly, the wearing of a long robe by the legal fraternity in a hot country such as ours should also be re-examined.
