ONGC gives Rs.14.68 lakhs for construction of foot over-bridge

KARAIKAL: The Cauvery Asset of the ONGC here has contributed Rs.14.68 lakhs for the construction of a foot over-bridge across Arasalar river in Karaikal.

Anil Johari, GGM-Asset Manager of Cauvery Asset of ONGC, handed over the cheque for the sum to M. Chandirakasu, Minister for Industries and Welfare, Pondicherry, during the Independence Day celebration in the presence of S. Sundaravadivelu, Collector of Karaikal.

Mr. Johari said the Arasalar bridge was damaged in the tsunami disaster resulting in total disruption of traffic between Karaikal and Nagore. The footbridge, to be constructed by the Public Works Department within two months, will enable pedestrians and cyclists to cross the river instead of taking a circuitous route. He said the ONGC was actively involved in the socio-economic development in and around its operational areas apart from the core areas of exploration and exploitation work of hydrocarbon.

The Cauvery Asset of ONGC has spent Rs.21.98 lakhs for tsunami relief measures in Karaikal and Nagapattinam, Rs.five lakhs to National Higher Secondary School, Nagapattinam for construction of computer laboratory, and Rs.20 lakhs to various beneficiaries of Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur and Karaikal districts. he said.
