Officials take action against `erring' salesmen of FP shops

Staff Reporter

MADURAI: The Madurai district administration and supply officials came down heavily on the salesmen of the fair price shops and kerosene distribution centres in the district by initiating criminal cases against 13 salesmen and issuing dismissal orders against 24 others.

This followed massive raids by the revenue and supply authorities in the last six months. During the intensive raids at the FP shops and kerosene distribution centres, the officials verified the stock and found that the salesmen issued fake bills and in some cases, they even blackmarketed some of the essential commodities.

Following the detection of the irregularities, the Collector, D. Raajendiran, directed the supply officials to initiate steps and register criminal cases on 13 salesmen from two kerosene distribution centres and seven FP shops in the district. Further, dismissal orders were issued to 24 salesmen.

Mr. Raajendiran urged the members of the public to remain vigilant and not to hesitate in bringing any irregularity to the notice of the authorities. They could inform over telephone no. 2532501 to enable the officials to launch appropriate action against the salesmen and thus help the administration in running the PDS efficiently.

Meanwhile, the Collector said the distribution of the new ration cards was in full swing and efforts were under way to ensure the particulars furnished on the cards were represented correctly. However, if any errors inadvertently cropped on the cards, the cardholders could get the particulars corrected based on the information they provided in the application forms seeking renewal, during the months of August and September at the offices of the Taluk Supply officers.
