CHENNAI, AUG. 14. She was Miss Chennai 2001 (first runner-up) and Miss South India 2003-2004. And now, Ratikka Venugopal is going to Singapore to represent the country in the Fitness Woman Asia Pacific Championship.

The face on the hoardings for Chennai Silks and Vijaylakshmi Silks campaigns, Ratikka, is all set to leave on a jet plane to Lion City tonight. "I have been starving for two months now," she says. "It's all part of training," she laughs. VIBA, the organiser of the Miss Chennai contest, is mainly responsible for sending her for the contest. Designer Rehane, Follicle Lazer, Maverick, Jeffery Vardon and O2 are the others sponsoring Ratikka for the Beauty, Physique and Free Round.

In addition to these three rounds, the model will also walk the ramp for a Sponsors round, where the participants will be asked to wear clothes provided by the event sponsors.

For the free round, participants are expected to perform something to represent their country, she adds. "I'm performing a fusion of Kalari, yoga and contemporary dance. I wanted something rooted in our culture. Richa has designed the clothes for this round."

The veteran of 125 ramp shows in India and abroad, the 23-year-old model is already a familiar face in Singapore, having modelled for the Kodak hoardings there.

Rattika won the Miss Chennai crown when she was in the first year of her BBA. The Karate black belt-holder loves to race dirt bikes and design jewellery. Ratikka hopes to pursue a career in Sales and Marketing after doing an MBA. For now however, she just wants to concentrate on her modelling career.

And when she takes her first step on the ramp, wearing a burgundy evening gown in Singapore on August 22, she would be on her way to bring glory to the city.
