TAMIL NADU

Nothing strange

Sir, — I fully agree with the view of the DMK chief, M. Karunanidhi, that the demand for bifurcation of Tamil Nadu does not amount to secession (July 23). S. Ramadoss wants one more State as part of the Indian Union. His demand is not a strange one. Already the big States were bifurcated to create Uttaranchal and Chhattisgarh.

Even in Tamil Nadu the districts were bifurcated for administrative reasons. The Government can pay greater attention when the districts are smaller. The same will be applicable to small States. The charge that Dr. Ramadoss demands a separate State for his caste is not true. Only one third of the voters belong to his caste in the Northern districts of the State.
