No outbreak of any disease in tsunami-hit areas

Staff Reporter

NAGERCOIL: The Health Department was closely monitoring the tsunami-hit areas to prevent outbreak of any contagious disease, said the Collector, Sunil Paliwal.

He said that a health team, led by a senior entomologist Kiruba, which visited Muttom, disproved the claim of a Muttom-based non-governmental organisation, Programme for Human Development, and its doctor, Shabin Roy, that there was an incident of contagious disease, schistasomiasis, in the tsunami-hit areas.

Though the doctor claimed that a boy namely Prasath of Muttom was infected with the disease, he could not submit a test sample to prove it. The Collector appealed to the public not to believe rumours of this kind.
