New TV channel

CHENNAI, AUG. 14. `Thamizh Thirai' (Ttv) will start its telecast from September 3. The television controlled and managed by the Tamil film industry personnel will telecast programmes round-the-clock, said the channel head and film director, Bharathiraja.

The channel will buy documentary and feature films, which won awards at the national and international festivals. ``We have 25 lakh connections and more than 150 dealers with us. Our channel is going to be seen all over the world in 35 countries. Tamilians who are living all over the world will see our channel and we intend catering for their needs, he said.

Some of the programmes which are in the pipeline are serials, Kovai Thambi's ``Gouri Teacher'', Abavanan's ``Appuchi", Hemang Babu's ``Patti Sonna Kathai'' and Kutti Padmini's ``Karpooranayaki''.

Popular directors K. Balachander, Bharathiraja, Mani Ratnam, K. Shanker, P.Vasu, Vasanth, K.S. Ravi Kumar, Cheran, Thankar Bachan, Lingu Samy, A.R. Murugadoss, S.S. Stanley and Revathy have accepted to do telefilms for

the channel.

For the women's section, Suhasini, Revathy, Kutti Padmini, Poornima Bagyaraj, Anu Haasan, Kamila Nasser, Rohini, Uma Padmanabahan and Radika Surgeeth will be producers and they will do variety of programmes.

The channel is going to uplink its programmes from Ambattur-Tiruvallur station of the Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited.
