New technology to increase yield

ERODE: The new Systematic Rice Intensifying (SRI) technology, gaining popularity in the district, would be followed during this season, said the Joint Director of Agriculture, T.S.R. Ramakrishnan recently. Under the SRI technique the farmers would get more yield with low quantity of seeds.

Last year following the SRI technique several raised paddy of which 500 demonstration plots were formed and it was detected that the yield was increased by 500 to 1,000 kg more per hectare of land. He said the new technique gained momentum and this would be followed in LBP, Kalingarayan Thadapalli and Arakkankottai ayacuts this year. The Joint Director said under the scheme very limited seeds might be used for raising nurseries and limited quantity of fertilizers used for the crop. The farmers of Kalingarayan and LBP ayacuts are busy in their agricultural operations.
