Nets distributed to Pondy fishermen

Pondicherry: Delegates of Pondicherry-based Multipurpose Social Service Society and also the Germany-based CARITAS (a voluntary organisation) and ECHO (European Commission for Humanitarian Office), New Delhi, distributed fishing nets to 321 fishermen families at Solai Nagar in Muthialpet Assembly constituency on Monday. The local legislator A. Kasilingam felicitated the organisations for helping the tsunami-hit villages.

Executive Director of Multipurpose Social Service Society Rev. Fr.R. Ratchagar said nets worth Rs. 33 lakhs were made available by ECHO.

Ms. Claire an official of the Organisation and Mr. Rainer a representative of the CARITAS were among those who spoke.Fr. Ratchagar said fishermen in 19 villages from Kanagachettykulam in Pondicherry up to Pattinachery in Karaikal were being provided the nets valued at Rs. 3.6 crores.
