Naxalites abduct constable, seize weapon

CHIKMAGALUR, OCT. 7. Members of People's War abducted a head constable of the Sringeri Police Station in Magebylu village near Kigga in Sringeri taluk of the district today and snatched a SLR weapon from him, according to reports reaching here. The reports also said that the constable escaped from the naxalites after a struggle.

Sources in the Police Department, which gave the name of the head constable as Muddappa, said he was abducted by a 12-member group of People's War from the house of Chandrashekar Bhat in Magebylu.

The PW group, stormed the house of Mr. Chandrashekar at noon. On not finding Chandrashekar, the naxalites took Muddappa along with them. After snatching his weapon, 10 naxalites escaped into the forests. Muddappa struggled with the rest and escaped from them after trekking a kilometre.
