Murder accused hacked to death in broad daylight

TAMBARAM: A 26-year-old man wanted in a murder case was hacked to death by a five-member gang on the Old GST Road at Irumbuliyur on Monday morning.

The victim, Jagan, was on his way to the Judicial Magistrate Court at East Tambaram for a hearing in connection with a crime case when he was waylaid.

Jagan was on a motorcycle with a friend, when the gang armed with deadly weapons surrounded them, picked up Jagan and murdered him on the spot.

Police said the gang had lain in wait at the spot for a considerable time. Police had some clues and were following up on them, sources said.

Jagan had been jailed in a murder case and was out on bail. Subsequenly, he was detained for a year under the Goondas Act and was released in April this year.

The daring daylight murder, that too in a thickly populated residential locality, has shocked the residents of Irumbuliyur.

House burgled

Gold jewels weighing about four sovereigns and some cash were burgled from a house in M.G.R. Nagar in Sholinganallur. The burglary came to light on Sunday when the residents returned.

The police said Venkat Rao, an employee in a private company, had left the city with his family members.

After returning, they noticed the rear door broken open and the valuables burgled. Thoraipakkam police are investigating the case.
