MPs press Lalu on rail projects in State

New Delhi: Thirty Members of Parliament from Tamil Nadu belonging to the Democratic Progressive Alliance met Railway Minister Lalu Prasad on Thursday, demanding inclusion of certain important railway projects pending in the State in the supplementary Budget to be presented in the winter session of Parliament.

The memorandum presented by them pleaded for creation of Salem Division in Southern Railway. Leaders of various parties from the State had already written to the Minister on the issue.

The MPs sought sanction for electrification work between Tiruchi and Villupuram Broad gauge line. The proposal is lying with the Railway Ministry. They also demanded conversion of the metre gauge line between Dindigul-Pollachi and Coimbatore-Palghat into broad gauge. The updated survey for these projects has been completed and is pending with the ministry. A proposal for conversion of the metre gauge line between Villupuram and Chengalpattu into broad gauge is also pending with the ministry.
