Minister flays anti-people fete

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, DEC. 30. The Culture Minister, Mr. G. Karthikeyan, has said that celebration of festivals should not lead to disruption of public life.

Inaugurating the `Sangamom-2001', the State-level convention of veterinarians here today, the Minister said the increasing incidence of such "anti-people" celebrations was reflective of the gradual distancing of modern lifestyles from Nature.

Mr. B. Vijayakumar, MLA, Dr. Udayavarman, Dr. G. Sudevan and Dr. N. Mohanan, were among those who spoke on the occasion.

A seminar held in this connection focused on the zoonotic significance of Leptospirosis, Rabies, and Brucellosis.

Dr. C.R. Soman, health activist, stressed the importance of inter-disciplinary management approaches in the control of these diseases.

The seminar was co-hosted by the Indian Veterinary Association and the Department of Animal Husbandry.
