Officials of local bodies and the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board should take coordinated action to overcome problems in drinking water supply, said K.P.Munusamy, Minister for Municipal Administration and Rural Development.

At a meeting to review the department schemes being implemented in the district on Sunday, Mr.Munusamy said priority should be given for resolving grievances pertaining to water supply. Hygienic supply of potable water should be ensured through proper upkeep of pipelines .

The Minister also advocated the need for implementing solid waste management programmes in municipal and town panchayats.

Exclusive sites should be earmarked for implementing the scheme, he said.

Officials should also evolve and implement income-generating schemes in municipalities and town panchayats. “By strengthening the internal resources, the local bodies will be able to implement schemes better,” he said.

The Minister specifically advised the officials to ensure that rain water saving structures are erected in all the buildings in municipal and town panchayats.

The Minister advised T.Munusamy, District Collector, to initiate action for setting up sanitary complex in all the village panchayats.
