Medals presented to OTA cadets

CHENNAI, MARCH 17 . Twentyfour meritorious cadets, including seven women, were presented with medals at the Officers' Training Academy here today on the eve of the 79th passing out parade on Saturday.

The OTA Commandant Maj. Gen. K.K. Kohli gave away the medals to the cadets and trophies to the winner companies. Under Officer Rahul Bharti, Battalion Under Officer Pradeep Khanchi and Company Sergeant Maj. Pushkar Singh Sirohi bagged three medals each.

Among women, Lady cadet Sushma B.N. Pandey won three medals. In all, 39 medals were awarded to cadets who excelled in firing, drill and turnout, sports, essay competition, service subjects, outdoor training, physical training, endurance and cross-country race. Naushera Company won the Commandant's Sports Trophy and the Grenadier Trophy for the Best Company in firing.

It also bagged the Kasinathan Cup for endurance. The Best Marching Company award went to Jessami Company.

A total of 283 cadets, including 72 women, are being commissioned into the Army on Saturday.

The Union Territory of Pondicherry, Lt. Governor, Lt.Gen. (Retd). M.M. Lakhera, will review the parade.

The outgoing cadets presented a cultural programme.
