MDMK man held for assaulting bus driver

CHENNAI SEPT. 21. The Ashok Nagar police arrested an MDMK functionary and his associate for allegedly assaulting an MTC bus driver yesterday.

According to the police, Dasarathan, driver of the bus (No.114), was proceeding to Tambaram, when two persons assaulted him near the Kasi Theatre bus stop on Inner Ring Road, at around 8.30 p.m.

A case was registered and late last night, Karunakaran, member, Literary Wing of the South Chennai unit of the MDMK, and Srinivasaperumal were taken into custody.

Teacher commits suicide

In another incident, a 21-year-old school teacher was found hanging in her residence on Ellaiamman Koil Street, Shastri Nagar, last evening.

The police identified the deceased as Suguna, working in a school at Besant Nagar. She was staying with her parents.

Jewels stolen

Meanwhile, 10 sovereigns of jewels were reported stolen from a house at Chitlapakkam yesterday.

According to the police, Jayashree was in the terrace along with her child, when culprits entered her flat at the Hariram apartment complex and stole the jewels.
