Mayiladuturai grabs top ranks in Nagai dist.

NAGAPATTINAM: The students of Mayiladuturai have secured the first three ranks in the district in the SSLC public examinations (Tenth Standard) this year. However, two students scored the second rank.

Education authorities told The Hindu on Saturday that R. Durgalakshmi of St. Paul's Girls Higher Secondary School, Mayiladuturai, scored 486 marks out of 500 and ranked first in the district. Sangeetha of St. Paul's Girls HSS, Mayiladuturai and T.S. Parthiban of Government High School, Thagattur, scored 485 marks each and shared the second place. S. Lakshmi of D.P.T.R. National HSS, Mayiladuturai, bagged the third rank in the district by securing 483 marks.

In the tsunami-hit Nagapattinam area, T.S. Parthiban of Government High School, Thagattur, scored the highest mark of 485 and emerged topper in the Nagapattinam educational district.

Neelayadakshi of Natarajan Dhamayanthi and G. Suryakala of Natarajan Dhamayanthi HSS, Nagapattinam, scored 481 marks out of 500 marks and R. Archana of Government High School, Vedaranyam, secured 479 marks and ranked third in the tsunami-affected area of Nagapattinam educational district.

In all, 16,536 students including 4,948 from the tsunami-hit area appeared for the SSLC examinations and 71 per cent of the candidates passed the examinations. In the tsunami-hit area, the pass percentage was 84 per cent. Almost equal number of boys and girls appeared for the SSLC public examination in the district.
