Matrimonial row referred to appropriate court

MADURAI, MARCH 17 . A 21-year-old woman was taken aback today when her husband (according to her), who was produced before the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on a habeas corpus petition, claimed to be a bachelor and denied any marital relationship between them.

Though the woman stated that their marriage took place at the Thiruchendur Murugan temple and that they had lived together for nearly one and a half months, she failed to convince the court with documentary evidence.

Closing the petition, a Division Bench, comprising Justice D. Murugesan and Justice A.R. Ramalingam, directed the petitioner to approach the appropriate court having jurisdiction over such disputes.

According to the woman, belonging to Subramaniyapuram in Tirunelveli district, she fell in love with her neighbour and as both their parents refused to solemnise their marriage, she eloped with him and married him on November 21 last. The couple were living in their relative's house till the mother-in-law of the petitioner took her son home on January 5.
