Mani executes bail, two cases pending

MYSORE DEC. 4. Kolathur Mani today executed the bail granted to him by the Karnataka High Court, before the Chamarajanagar JMF Court, which adjourned the hearing of the case till January 2.

However, Mani's release will be delayed as he is yet to receive bail in two more cases filed by the Kollegal Rural Police. The bail applications in these cases will be filed in the Mysore District and Sessions Court on Thursday.

Counsel for Mani presented the bail bond and two sureties of Rs. 1 lakh each before the Judge, Devaraja Bhat. Two of Mani's relatives from Kolathur, Palaniswamy and Govindaswamy, stood surety. Mani has been asked to present himself before the Deputy Superintendent of Police at Kollegal once in 10 days.

Mani is the second accused in a case registered by the Chamarajanagar East Police on charges that he and the Nakkeeran reporter, Sivasubramaniam, and Ramesh had stored arms and ammunition in B.R. Hills forest area to be supplied to the forest brigand, Veerappan.

During the court proceedings, the Mysore Central Jail authorities submitted a letter stating that Ramesh was not lodged in the jail. They said this following a warrant issued by the court for the production of the accused before the court, during the earlier hearing.
