Man gets 10 years prison term for setting wife on fire

TAMBARAM: A week after a women was set afire and killed, the Chengalpattu Fast Track Court has sentenced her husband to 10 years imprisonment.

According to the prosecution, Rajendran, employed with a private company in Bangalore, had come to his house in Kurinji Nagar, East Tambaram. He had a quarrel with his wife, Lathika and in a fit of rage, poured kerosene on her and set her on fire. The woman was charred to death. Tambaram police registered a case and remanded him to judicial custody.

The Chengalpattu Fast Track Court on Tuesday slapped the 10-year-sentence on Rajendran. The court also fined the youth, Rs.500 and an additional six month sentence if he failed to pay the amount.
