Malayalam translation of Thirukkural released

CHENNAI OCT. 13. The Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker, K. Kalimuthu, released the Malayalam translation of Thirukkural here recently.

Releasing the book at a function organised by the Malayalee Club, Dr. Kalimuthu said Malayalam writers always adopted a pragmatic approach towards social issues in their writings.

Though several people translated Thiruvalluvar's magnum opus into various languages, this was a unique attempt as the author had taken pains to translate the original text, he said, adding that he would recommend that the State government honour the translator.

Participating in the function, the Kerala Minister for Non-Resident Keralites, M.M. Hasan, said several people translated Thirukkural, but this was the first attempt by a non-resident Malayalee. The Minister announced that Kerala Government would also honour the author for his efforts.

P. Bhaskaran of the Literary Wing of the club said it took three years for M.R.R.Variar to complete the work.

Renowned artiste and Malayalam writer, M.V. Devan, Post Master General, Indira Krishna Kumar, Assistant Station Director, All India Radio, N. Murugan, offered felicitations.
