`Make Tamil official language in HC'

MADURAI, NOV. 29. The Madurai Bar Association has appealed to the Government to declare Tamil an official language in the High Court.

Advocates urged the Government to recommend to the Centre invocation of Section 348 (2) of the Constitution on this score.

At the general body meeting held here today, the advocates resolved to demand renaming of the Madras High Court in Tamil. The MLAs should take steps to pass a resolution in the Assembly supporting these demands.

While thanking the MLAs, G.K. Mani (Pattali Makkal Katchi) and N. Nanmaran (Communist Party of India - Marxist) for voicing advocates' sentiments, Bar members decided to stage a demonstration in the city on December 6 to press their demands.
