‘Vazhnthu Kattuvom’ project launched in Vazhapadi block

SALEM: The Salem district administration has launched ‘Vazhnthu Kattuvom’ project in Vazhapadi block here on Tuesday.

Inaugurating the project and a conference in the block, Collector J. Chandrakumar said the project was aimed at developing and strengthening pro-poor local institutions, equipping the poor with skills, and providing financial assistance for development programmes. It was implemented with the financial assistance from World Bank.

The administration was already implementing the project in Ayodhyapattinam, Peddanaickanpalayam, Gengavalli and Talavasal blocks in the district.

Sustained support is being provided under the project for the establishment and functioning of the Village Poverty Reduction Committees (VPRC). People covered under the project were being provided with liberal financial assistance enabling them to take up self-employment activities.

The Collector also handed over financial assistance to the tune of Rs. 2.16 lakh to 10 self-help groups during the function.

Later, he participated in the special grama sabha meeting held at Muthumpatti village in Vazhapadi block.
