‘Stranger’ takes away MTC bus, nabbed

CHENNAI: A stranger allegedly gained entry into the T.Nagar bus depot in the early hours of Tuesday and drove a parked bus giving some anxious moments to the Metropolitan Transport Corporation staff and others in the area.

Police said that on Tuesday morning, the staff on duty at the depot, including a few drivers and security personnel saw a youth getting into a stationary bus. Within a few minutes, they saw the bus moving out of the depot. Sensing trouble, the staff raised an alarm and stopped the vehicle immediately. However, the youth had moved the bus for about 500 metres, police added.

On information, the policemen arrived at the spot.

Investigations revealed the ‘driver’ identified himself as Rajarajan, aged 30 years, belonging to Pudukottai district. As his statements were contradictory and confusing, police referred him to the Institute of Mental Health for a medical examination. Further investigation is on.
