‘Set up effluent treatment plants’

ERODE: Federation of All Trade and Industry Associations of Erode District has asked the Tamil Nadu Government to set up effluent treatment plants.

In a release, the trade body says as the cost of setting up treatment plants is Rs. 600 crore, which no industry and trade can afford, the Government along with the Centre must come forward to bear the entire expenses.

It says all the textile processing industries in the city discharge about nine crore litres of effluents, to treat which plants must be set up at 10 to 15 locations.

The difficulty the textile processing mills have in contributing for such a project is that the cost of production goes up, rendering them uncompetitive.

The Federation also suggests that the Government, by doing so, can supply the treated water to the industries, dump the remaining solid waste in a safe manner and also charge on a monthly basis the units using the plants.
