Collector appeals to young women to fight social evils such as dowry harassment

SALEM: Collector J. Chandrakumar has assured the inmates of Government Girls Home here that he would make arrangements to depute a doctor on part-time basis to provide them medical care.

Interacting with the girls here on Saturday, Mr. Chandrakumar said girls should get educated to fight the social evils such as dowry harassment, infanticide, foeticide, violence against women etc.

“Only education can empower you to fight these evils,” he pointed out.

He asked them to read books of various scholars, writers etc. in which they detailed their trials and tribulations, which could be taken as examples.

The Collector also wanted the girls to keep the environment neat and tidy and stressed the need for personal hygiene.

He promised them that he would talk to the officials of State Road Transport Corporation so that buses could be run directly to the school where the girls study.
