‘Postal employees' demand to be taken up with Centre'

Postal Department employees should understand their responsibility and rise to the occasion to prove that the country has the best postal service, said S. N. M. Ubayathullah, State Commercial Taxes Minister.

Inaugurating the 39th circle conference of the All India Association of Inspectors of Posts and Assistant Superintendent of Posts of Tamil Nadu Circle branch here on Thursday, the Minister said postal employees should love the job and discharge their duties with affection towards people.

The Minister assured to take up their demand with the Central government for increasing their grade pay from Rs. 4,200 to Rs. 4,600 on par with Inspectors of various other departments like excise and customs . “I will talk to the Union Minister for Information and Technology A. Raja regarding your demand”, he said.

V. Kannan, senior postmaster, Thanjavur Head Post Office and chairman of the Reception Committee of the conference said the Sixth Pay Commission has fixed the basic pay for Inspectors of post offices at Rs. 9,300 and a grade pay of Rs. 4,200.

This is less compared to Inspectors of the same cadre working in other Central government departments like excise and customs. "Our demand is grade pay should be increased to Rs. 4,600", he said. R. Balachander, circle president, presided over the conference. K. Ezhil, circle secretary and S.Krishnamurthy, secretary of the reception committee, participated . In the afternoon session, Roop Chand, All India general secretary of the Association, S.Samuel, former general secretary, post master general M.S.Ramanujan (Chennai City Region), V. Rajarajan (Western region) and B.Selvakumar, Southern Region, participated. S.P.Rajalingam, postmaster general, Central Region, released a souvernir.
