Sub-Inspector, he abducted a girl in full public view

CHENNAI: After repeated attempts to impress a teenaged girl failed, an automobile mechanic hit upon a novel idea to win her love by enacting a kidnap drama. Dressed like a woman Sub-Inspector, he abducted the girl in full public view near the Sathangadu bus stand here on Tuesday evening. However, the sequence of events went against his plan and the 24-year-old accused landed in police custody.

According to police sources, local people in the Sathangadu area saw a “woman police official,” forcing a 16-year-old girl into a Tata Sumo vehicle. As they tried to intervene, the vehicle drove into a narrow lane and could not move further. Some policemen on patrol duty also rushed to the spot and saw the girl crying.

Enquiries on the spot revealed that the woman Sub-Inspector was actually a man who was identified as T. Murugan of Arani in Vellore district. The two-wheeler mechanic, who has a shed in Tirumangalam here, had seen the Plus-Two student some months ago and tried to befriend her. Even as she did not respond, he continued to stalk her. An eve-teasing complaint was lodged against him with the Anna Nagar police in January.

The vehicle used to abduct the girl was seized. The accused had bought a khaki uniform, wig and other accessories to pose as a woman police officer. Chennai Suburban Commissioner of Police S.R. Jangid gave cash awards to the police for nabbing the accused .
