‘Hop-on-hop-off’ tour with hope of turning ECR tourist-friendly

Four air-conditioned 18-seater coaches will run to Mahabalipuram

CHENNAI: Ride on East Coast Road will be more pleasurable, spared the pain of the scorching sun, with the Department of Tourism introducing the ‘hop-on-hop-off-tour’ luxury coaches.

Four air-conditioned 18-seater coaches will run on the road leading to Mahabalipuram from next month, said Secretary to the Tourism and Culture Department V. Irai Anbu. The coaches will stop en route at 13 tourism spots. Tourists can board these buses at any of the 13 locations.

From Chennai, the first bus will start from the Tamil Nadu Tourism Complex on Wallajah Road at 9 a.m. and the last at 4 p.m. From Mahabalipuram, the first coach will leave at 10.40 a.m. and the last at 5.40 p.m.

Ticket for these buses is priced at Rs.250 each and it is valid for a day.

“The facility means tourists can hop on and hop off at any of the 13 places. Tickets are valid for all coaches and could be purchased at any of the locations or in the coach itself. Tourists can take any number of trips in a day,” Mr. Irai Anbu said.

The buses will halt at Marundeeswarar temple, Thiruvanmiyur, VGP, Mayajaal, MGM Dizzee World, Dakshinachitra, Muttukadu Boat House, Tiruvidanthai Temple, Crocodile Bank, Dolphin City, Tiger Cave, Arjuna’s Penance, Five Rathas and Mamallapuram Temple.
