Life comes to a standstill in Kerala

Kerala Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: : The 24-hour general strike organised by the Trade Union Sponsoring Committee to protest against the anti-labour and anti-people economic policies of the UDF Government was marked by some violent incidents in some parts of Kerala on Tuesday.

The incidents included setting afire of two KSEB jeeps at Chathannur in Kollam district, stoning and forcible closure of shops.

A 52-year-old sick man of Arimbur, near Thrissur city, reportedly died as he could not be taken to hospital.

This time, people had taken the strike call more seriously as the organisers were expected to take a tough stand because of the aggressive police action on activists of the pro-LDF students and youth organisations.
