We are paying all taxes to the local body, say residents

TIRUNELVELI: Members of 26 families living on Rajaji and Netaji Streets of Mukkoodal submitted a petition to the Collector, G. Prakash, during the weekly grievance day meeting on Monday, appealing him not to acquire their residential lands for the construction of a primary health centre.

The petitioners said they had constructed their houses 20 years ago on the land under threat and were paying all taxes payable to the local body. However, at the instance of some local politicians, the land was being targeted for constructing the primary health centre.

“Even after the officials, including the Revenue Divisional Officer, Cheranmahadevi, have made it clear that the residential land would not be acquired for the construction of the centre, efforts are being made by some people to force the officials to acquire the land. Hence, the Collector should announce that the land would not be acquired for any public purpose,” the petitioners said.
