“Rs.240 crore for development projects in film industry”

CHENNAI: The State government plans to invest about Rs.240 crore during the current financial year on various development projects in the film industry, including setting up of a national centre of excellence for animation, gaming and visual effects, said Minister for Information Parithi Ellamvazhuthi on Saturday.

Participating in a promotional road show here for the 3-day FICCI FRAMES -2009 convention being held in Mumbai from February 17 to 19, the Minister said the convention would give a good opportunity for the Tamil film industry.

Artists, eminent actors, directors and producers of the State can showcase their talents, he said expressing hope that that the industry would make the best use of the convention.

Irai Anbu, Secretary, Tourism and Culture Department, said the Tamil film industry, which had already made an impact in north India, was now getting international recognition. P.Murari, advisor to FICCI president, and Amita Sarkar, senior director of the FICCI, spoke.
