VELLORE: About 900 striking employees of the MRF unit in Arakkonam, belonging to the MRF United Workers Union (UWU), thronged the office of the Deputy Chief Inspector of Factories here on Tuesday and individually submitted petitions seeking removal of contract workers said to be engaged by the management for running the factory.

The petition stated that the employees were on strike since May 9, protesting against the “unilateral agreement” signed between the management and the MRF Workers Welfare Union, and demanding recognition to the MRFUWU.

V. Divijendran, vice-president of the MRFUWU, told newspersons at the office of the Deputy Chief Inspector of Factories on Tuesday that inexperienced new workers were being appointed every day on a contract basis to carry on production work in the factory. T

he employees urged the Deputy Chief Inspector of Factories to immediately intervene and take action against the management for allegedly engaging contract workers in place of the striking workers.

Ravi Prakash, Plant Manager, MRF, Arakkonam, was not reachable on his cell phone for comments on the allegation of the MRFUWU on Tuesday night.
